On April 19th the children of Anna’s Place NOLA performed at City Park in front of a wide audience prior to the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Concert. They shared the stage with other young artists from Plessy Elementary and Esperanza Elementary.
Our student, Bre’chade (14 years old), conducted the Anna’s Place NOLA orchestra with the precision of a potential orchestra director. The Director of Arts & Community Engagement, Mr. Darryl Durham, conducted a joint presentation of “Oye como va”.
These children are learning valuable lessons from face to face experiences with professional musicians: technique, conception of new musical ideas, ways to convey those ideas to performers and to the audience, and especially the confidence to stand in front of a crowd with pride for their hard work.
